My research specialty lies around the intersection between differential geometry and numerical analysis. I am especially interested in understanding how notions of shape that work for smooth objects, like curvature, can be generalized to discrete objects that are exactly representable by a computer. A good example is geodesic domes, which are clearly round, and yet are made up only of flat pieces. A generalized notion of curvature is needed to properly characterize the roundness of these shapes.
Besides math, I'm also an avid hiker and TTRPG player, and an advocate for free software. I also host the department tea and the grad student seminar, so please contact me if you're interested in giving a talk!
